Which fab shop consumables stop a whole cell, and which just slow one station?
The ones that stop a cell are the ones only one station can use and only one supplier delivers on a route. A drum of wire stops the weld cell outright. A worn plasma consumable set stops the table. Why doesn't our ERP catch when we run out of wire or gas?
Because an ERP plans from the bill of materials, and wire, gas, discs, powder and plasma consumables are almost never on it. MRP reserves the tube and the plate for a job, then assumes someone on the floor keys in everything else that got used. Between setups nobody does, so the shortage only surfaces when a welder reaches for an empty cabinet. Arda runs the replenishment loop for exactly those variable-consumption items and slots in alongside the ERP, which keeps doing jobs, routing and costing.
How do you size a card for a consumable whose burn rate doubles on a big run?
You do not resize the system, you resize one card. A card carries a quantity and a supplier, so when a run doubles what the weld cell pulls, purchasing raises that one card and every other shelf in the shop is left alone. Do laser and plasma consumables need a different card setup than wire and discs?
Yes, because they are consumed by pierces and by hours, not by weight. A plasma consumable set wears as a matched group, so the card should carry the whole set at the amperage that table runs, rather than five separate lines that go empty on the same afternoon. Laser cover slides and cutting nozzles work the same way, sized to what the machine eats in a heavy nesting month. Wire, discs and powder are bought by the case and the drum, so their cards are sized on delivery days instead. Same card, same scan, different quantity logic behind it.
Do we need scanner guns or new hardware?
No. Any phone already on the floor reads the QR code on the card, so there is no scanner gun to buy, no rugged tablet at the weld cell, and no new login for a fabricator to remember. That matters in a fab shop because the card sits where the work is: on the wire cabinet, on the disc shelf, on the powder rack, in the plasma consumable drawer.
